If food co-ops want to be as green as possible, they shouldn't carry dry beans.

Canned beans use less energy, according to Slate's rough calculation.

Cans of Blue Runner Creamy Creole Red Beans are among the core items in my hurricane season pantry. I can't make a better batch myself, so I'm glad to hear this. I feel greener already.

But what if I use an electric opener? Does that shift the balance?
