Mazzy Star's David Roback has died at 61

Mazzy Star's guitarist and keyboardist, David Roback, has died at age 61. He and the singer, Hope Sandoval, were considered the creative force behind the band. (See first comment for obituary.)

Mazzy Star's biggest hit, "Fade into You," from their 1993 album So Tonight That I Might See, is minimalistic on the surface but has an enduring, haunting quality.

Roback wrote the music, and Sandoval wrote the lyrics…

You live your life, you go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew

For some reason that song "Fade Into You" reminds me a lot of Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door". Sounds pretty good though! This is another band I never heard of until you mentioned them. I am too freaking old I guess.

Sorry my earlier comment showed up as "Unknown" now I don't know how to get rid of it. For some reason that song "Fade Into You" reminds me a lot of Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door". Good point — "Fade into You" does have a resemblance to "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."

"Heaven's Door" uses this chord progression in the verse and chorus: I V ii __, I V IV __

"Fade into You" goes like this in the verse: I V ii __

"Fade into You" chorus: I V ii __, I V ii __, I V ii IV, I V ii __

It isn't just the same chords in the same order, but also that the chords change in the same rhythm: I used an underscore to indicate when a chord is held twice as long.
