My FIRST day at my new job in 1994 was them sending me to the Soup Man. And then it showed up as an episode on Seinfeld 2 years later - it was crazy funny! And yes, the Soup Man was just about that strict and I was coached for over a half hour on how to order soup and my colleagues made me practice in the office before I was allowed to go - and had exact change counted out to the penny. Luckily, I got the order 100% right!
