Come back, Eliot Spitzer!

We need your help!

Yes, you cheated on your wife, thus making it clearly necessary for you to be replaced by someone who, uh, cheated on his wife.

And it's certainly gracious of you to say -- while laying out your vision for how the federal government should tackle the financial crisis -- that "mistakes I made in my private life now prevent me from participating in these issues as I have in the past."

But can't we just say you had a really humiliating "time-out," and all's forgiven?

If Hillary Clinton becomes Secretary of State and you're appointed to replace her (as proposed in the first link), you'll hardly be the first or the last philandering Senator.

In fact, there's one particularly famous Senator who cheated on at least one of his wives, and possibly two. You know who committed adultery? You might never know ... that one!

UPDATE: "I repeatedly blog about Eliot Spitzer without having much of an opinion about him one way or the other."

You have no concept of what an evil man Spitzer is and has always been. He set out to destroy people and entire industries because of hubris and an exagerated sense of self rightousness. Now I know that's how most of you liberal yuppies roll but he has a better chance of being appointed the manager of the New York Yankees as he does Senator. You are insane.

Thanks for that measured, objective argument. I like how you backed up your points with specific evidence. So I'll have to give that some serious thought.

Read your moms blog for the details. Sorry to bother you man. But you really should do just a little research about what you talking about. Unless you are planning a career in journalism.

Then you would fit right in.

Sorry to poop in your place. I think you have no idea who Eliot Sptizer really is and were just wearing your hip and ironic shoes today.

Like your music stuff though.

I don't think I'm exactly trying to hide my lack of any genuine insight about Eliot Spitzer when I just wrote that "I essentially have no actual opinion about him."

Putting Eliot Spitzer in the Senate is like asking Roman Polanski to open a day care center.

Spitzer is actually frightening. It's too bad he was brought down by his sex life rather than what was really the problem with him, an almost sociopathic refual to see limits to his power. Lots of prosecutors are in the personal destruction business, means to an end and all that, but Spitzer was nihilistic about it. We dodged a bullet with that guy's buffoonish demise, but we also didn't get to resolve the serious questions his career raised.
