Caroline Kennedy drops out.

Just reported: Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn her name from consideration as New York Senator to take Hillary Clinton's seat. She claims she's doing this because she's concerned about Senator Ted Kennedy, her uncle.

Of course, Sen. Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer before anyone knew the Senate seat was going to open up. The next New York Senator's shortened first term will be 2 years. "Two years after diagnosis [of the same condition Kennedy has], about 8% of patients are still alive."

Are we really supposed to believe it's taken her till now to put two and two together and realize that if she became Senator, she'd probably need to deal with the death of her uncle by the end of her first term (let alone future terms in the event she'd be re-elected)?

No, I'm going to assume her real reason for dropping out is that she realized -- either through soul-searching or blunt advisers -- that she's not the right person for the job.

I'm also going to assume she read my anti-endorsement blog post and that it was integral to her decision.

UPDATE #1: The NY Post has a very different take on what happened:

CAROLINE KENNEDY ENDS SENATE SEAT BID

MAKES DECISION AFTER LEARNING SHE WASN'T GOING TO BE PICKED AS SENATOR

Caroline Kennedy tonight withdrew her name from consideration to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate after learning that Gov. David Paterson wasn't going to choose her, The Post has learned. ...

Sources said the reason Paterson had decided not to tap the daughter of John F. Kennedy was her poor performances in media interviews and in in [sic] private sessions with various officials.

UPDATE #2: I can't put it any better than my mom did when she said:
