You could argue between several different measures of unemployment as the most pertinent. Interestingly, the number which sounds the best politically is also the number the government has decided to use after long, thoughtful deliberation.

It's like that with most government statistics. The same statistics the government uses to plan everything it does.

Is the same thing true of corporations?

They try reporting the best numbers to shareholders and sometimes resort to fraud, but have to worry about hedge funds.

Because of shorting, hedge funds can make money by discovering and reporting corporate lies. It's harder to make money off of government lies and harder still to force a government's hand. A government's size and authority see to that. But it can be done, just ask George Soros.

OK! Hey, has Blogger finally fixed its problem with deleting the space between an italicized quote and the non-italicized response?

Oh, darn.

Wait, Jason, how did you get that to work?

Say what you want italicized,

then include two carriage returns before you close the italicization command, and keep on writing.

Aha! Brilliant. Thanks.
